This design was inspired by the beautiful fields of lavendar pink fireweed that grow all over Southcentral Alaska each Fall. They signal summer is coming to an end, and it's said that once the tops blossom winter's only 6 weeks away.

New visitors to Alaska in the late summer are overwhelmed by the fireweed fields across our state. Instead of a few flowers here and there, as is common in Lower 48 states, we get acres of blooming fireweed. The roadsides will be filled 20 feet deep on each side with these blossoms in certain areas, and if you take the drive from Anchorage to the Kenai in the late summer, you'll literally see mountainsides ablaze with fireweed. It's no wonder nearly every summer visitor leave with at least one souvenir featuring this beautiful flower.
